I had such a fantastic weekend hanging out with Libby and Shaheen in Breckenridge.
We had the most incredible weather for their photo session, which is rare for the mountains in the summertime. The weather can change in an instant, even driving to town it looked like we might get rained out. Instead, we had sunshine and 60-degree weather, it was absolutely a perfect day.
There are so many incredible places to take engagement photos in the mountains of Colorado; you could probably drive yourself silly, trying to decide on a location. Breckenridge seems to be the perfect spot to meet between my parents in Vail and my couples who live in Denver.
Libby texted me about a week before the session with some inspiration photos so we could start to narrow down a location. When I saw the photos, they instantly reminded me of the area around Sapphire Point Overlook in Breckenridge. You have views of Lake Dillon and mountains all around. There are also a ton of giant pine trees along the bike trail that provide the perfect amount of shade for the beggining of a session.
When choosing a location in the mountains for an engagement session, I think it’s so important to consider how quickly the weather can change. I always try to find locations that have some sort of shelter close by – after hiking around the area I’ve learned how quickly you can get into a sticky situation if you don’t prepare ahead of time.
I also always try to consider how realistic the terrain is. I know a lot of couples want to dress up for their shoot which may mean booties or heels – so finding a spot with relatively flat terrain in the mountains can be a challenge, but it’s worth it for the safety and enjoyment of the couple!
We found the perfect spot for Libby and Shaheen’s session. The trees, lake and mountain views were all within a short walk and they could risky change in their car to switch up their outfits!
It was a gorgeous evening spent in the mountains and with the best people. I had so much fun getting to spend time with Libby and Shaheen and get to know them more. Although we had FaceTimed in the past, getting to meet up in person is so much better! I love engagement sessions because they give such a relaxed and fun opportunity to spend time with each couple before their wedding day.
There is no stress of the timeline or rush to get everyone out the door for the ceremony – just time to get to know each other and capture some sweet memories.
I can’t wait to capture more sessions out here in the mountains in the coming weeks and come back for our wedding this fall.
