Buena Vista, Colorado | Surf Hotel Intimate Wedding | Morgan + Kent

Well, it’s safe to say it has been a while since I posted a blog. With all of the COVID postponements and cancellations, my fall and winter schedule was insane. I spent less than 2 weeks at home from September to December because I was traveling back forth between Texas and Colorado.

I knew transitioning my business from Texas to Colorado would mean lots of traveling back and forth, but man it was a tough and exhausting time. This coming year my business is split about 60% in Colorado and 40% in Texas so it will be a busy travel season as well but less so than this year!

While the constant traveling was a big adjustment for me, COVID weddings were even more of a big adjustment.

This fall and winter, I photographed small intimate weddings and large traditional weddings. Equipped with two masks and lots of hand sanitizer each wedding was totally different from the last. Some weddings were extremely cautious, wearing masking, distancing, limiting table sizes etc. Others were just like old times.

As a vendor and photographer shooting weddings during these times is just strange and anxiety-provoking. There’s definitely a weird position of fulfilling your contractual requirements, protecting your own family and wanting to do the best job possible for your clients. It’s been an adjustment that’s for sure.

As COVID has continued to be our new normal, weddings have had to adjust and change. I have found many more clients looking to get married on a much shorter notice, they have realized that nothing’s changing soon, so why wait?

That’s how I got connected with Morgan and Kent – they didn’t want to wait any longer to get married, and I don’t blame them. They contacted me a few weeks before their big day, and what an amazing day it was.

With 14 of their family members and friend by their side, they headed to the mountains of Buena Vista, Colorado to say I do. They wanted to exchange their vows in the same place they first said I love you.

It was such a relaxed day; they got ready in the most adorable chateaus at the Surf Hotel. If you have not seen this wedding or others at the Surf Hotel, check them out below – I can’t tell you how incredible this hotel is as a venue. It is a modern and elegant venue tucked between the Arkansas River and Collegiate Mountains.

They spent the morning with their family and friends getting ready, exchanged private vows by the river and said I do in the mountains. And of course has their pup Molly along for the adventure. The weather was warm and sunny, perfect for a winter wedding in Colorado. But once that sound went down, it got cold quick. After the ceremony, Morgan and Kent shared a private dance and hot chocolate with their guests before heading into the warmth of Wesley Rose – the Surf Hotel’s restaurant.

Their wedding was just a few days before Christmas, and it was such a beautiful way to end the chaos that was 2020.

It was such a sweet celebration of their love and commitment to Christ.

Enjoy their day below and be sure to check out some other Surf Hotel Celebrations.
